How to Set Up IPTV on a Firestick (Fire OS and Vega OS Models)

The Firestick is the most popular IPTV device in the UK. Here's how to install a player, sign in and get a smooth picture – plus what changed with Amazon's new Vega OS sticks.

To watch IPTV on a Firestick you need a player app, your login details and a steady connection. Setup usually takes a few minutes. Since 2025, though, not every Firestick works the same way – check which one you have before you start.

Step 0: Fire OS or Vega OS?

Amazon is moving its Fire TV range from Fire OS (based on Android) to Vega OS. Vega OS only runs apps from the Amazon Appstore – you can't install apps from anywhere else. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select was one of the first Vega OS devices.

Check under Settings → My Fire TV → About.

Your stick What works What doesn't
Fire OS (e.g. Fire TV Stick 4K, 4K Max, Lite, Cube) Appstore apps, plus apps from a developer's own website if you allow it –
Vega OS (e.g. Fire TV Stick 4K Select) Amazon Appstore apps only Downloader, APK files

On a Vega OS stick, ask support which player currently works before you order.

Step 1: Install a player from the Appstore

  1. Press Home and open Find → Search.
  2. Search for "IPTV player", "Xtream" or "M3U".
  3. Pick an app that supports Xtream Codes or M3U, is updated regularly and has decent reviews.
  4. Select Get or Download.

Our guide to IPTV player apps lists the features worth looking for. For a quick test, VLC is available for Fire TV in the Appstore, although it has no proper TV guide.

Worth knowing: since late 2025 Amazon has been blocking apps it classes as piracy apps on Fire TV devices, including ones installed manually. Stick to the Appstore or the developer's official website.

Step 2 (Fire OS only): install from the developer's website

Some players aren't in the Appstore. On Fire OS models you can still install them:

  1. Unlock developer options: Settings → My Fire TV → About → select your device name seven times until "You are now a developer" appears.
  2. Install Downloader from the Appstore.
  3. Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → Install unknown apps → turn it on for Downloader.
  4. In Downloader, enter the download address from the app developer's official website.
  5. Install, then delete the APK file to free up space.

Never download APKs from forums or random sites – modified versions are common and can steal your details.

Step 3: Sign in with Xtream Codes

Open the app and choose "Xtream Codes", "Xtream API" or "Login with Xtream", then enter:

  • Name – anything, e.g. "KIVARO"
  • Server URL – exactly as shown in your customer area, including http:// and the port
  • Username and password

The app now loads live TV, films, series and the TV guide; the first load can take a minute or two. If your app only takes M3U, paste the M3U link instead – see Xtream Codes vs M3U.

Typing tip: entering a long URL with the remote is slow. Many apps let you add the details from your phone, or you can use the Fire TV app on your phone as a keyboard.

Step 4: Settings for a smooth picture

  • Network: use 5 GHz Wi-Fi, or better, Amazon's Ethernet adapter.
  • Buffer: a slightly larger buffer in the player rides out short dips.
  • Decoder: if channels freeze or show a black screen, switch between hardware and software decoding.
  • Storage: keep some space free and clear the app cache occasionally (Settings → Applications → Manage installed applications).

Which Firestick is best for IPTV?

Any current model handles Full HD. For 4K you need a 4K model and a 4K TV. The connection matters more than the model: a 4K stick on weak Wi-Fi looks worse than a basic stick on a cable.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use IPTV on a Firestick without Downloader?

Yes, if your player is in the Amazon Appstore. On Vega OS sticks, that's the only way.

Why can't I see developer options?

Amazon hides them on newer software. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About and select the device name seven times.

Do I need a VPN for IPTV on a Firestick?

No. KIVARO works without one, and a VPN often slows the connection down.

Where are my login details?

In your customer area under Subscription, and in the message you receive after activation. No details yet? Request the free 24-hour trial.
