LG smart TVs run webOS, and IPTV works through a player app from the LG Content Store. The process is the same on OLED and LED models; only very old webOS versions have a smaller choice of apps.
Preparation
- Update the TV: check the webOS version under Settings → General → About This TV (on some models: Support → TV Information) and install any update.
- Connection: Ethernet is ideal; on Wi-Fi use 5 GHz.
- Login details: have your Xtream Codes (server, username, password) and M3U link from the customer area ready.
1. Install a player from the LG Content Store
- Press Home and open Apps / LG Content Store.
- Search for "IPTV" or "M3U".
- Choose an app that supports Xtream Codes or M3U and install it.
The available apps vary by country and webOS version, so a well-known app may be missing simply because of your TV's region. Our support team can suggest one that works on your model. See also IPTV player apps.
2. Activation and playlist
Like on Samsung TVs, many LG apps use the TV's MAC address:
- The app shows the MAC address and a device key on first launch.
- On the app's official website, enter both and add your playlist (Xtream Codes or M3U).
- Choose Reload in the app on the TV.
Some apps are free at first and later charge a one-off activation fee to the developer – separate from your IPTV plan.
3. Get the TV guide working
With an Xtream Codes login, most apps load the guide automatically. With M3U you may need to add an XMLTV guide link. If times are off, check the time zone in the app and on the TV (Settings → General → Time & Date). Details in EPG explained.
4. Typing, picture and start-up
- Magic Remote: the pointer makes long server URLs quicker to enter – or add the details on the app's website from your phone.
- Picture: for sport, try LG's motion settings (TruMotion / motion smoothing); for films, Filmmaker or Cinema mode.
- Quick Start+: speeds up start-up, but after problems unplug the TV for a minute to clear everything.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| App crashes or freezes | unplug the TV for a minute, reinstall the app |
| "Invalid playlist" | check server URL and port, remove spaces, plan active? |
| Stutters in the evening | Ethernet or 5 GHz – see IPTV buffering fixes |
| Sound out of sync | adjust audio delay in the app |
| App missing from store | check region; alternatively use a Firestick |
Older LG TVs
If your TV runs a very old webOS version, a streaming stick in an HDMI port gets updates for longer and has more apps. See Android TV boxes.
Frequently asked questions
What's the best IPTV app for LG?
It depends on your model and taste. Look for Xtream Codes support, a good guide and regular updates. We'll suggest one with your trial details.
Can I use IPTV on LG over Wi-Fi?
Yes. For steady Full HD or 4K, 5 GHz Wi-Fi close to the router works far better than 2.4 GHz.
Does KIVARO work in 4K on LG OLED?
Yes, if the app supports 4K and your connection delivers around 25 Mbps steadily – see internet speed for IPTV.
